THE HOMESTRETCH

Playoffs, coming up ! (archive photo by Tracy Chou)

This week marked the start of the runup to the playoffs, with only three games left to play. If the first game between the Cabane Express and the Rouge Horizon Tomahawks was any indication, we may be in for a great playoff spring. In the second match, the Bily Kun Czechers returned to the win column after several difficult weeks. Smiles filled the room after their 5-2 victory over the Bifteck Avengers, who had many absent players from their lineup.

Besides what is going on on ice, the LFA is busy organizing the end of the season, and everything that goes with it, culminating with the grand finale championship event April 26. Before we get to this date with destiny, there are a number of issues to sort out, including the crowning of the regular season champions and the unveiling of the Tremblay Trophy, which may happen as soon as our next game. There remains a few details to sort out. Try to join us for the unveiling of a unique and exclusive trophy, created by TOTEM URBAIN. More details coming up !

The LFA wishes to congratulate Ludovic Helias, who was voted player of the month for February by his peers. With an impressive haul of points, including one game of nine  points and six goals, he clearly set himself apart last month. Like the others who received this distinction in our league, he will receive a president’s prize at his next game.

Besides the trophy and other prizes that are a current preoccupation, we are also working on next season, including the arrival of two new teams. To maximize the energy being expended to manage these files, we have put together a questionaire, a kind of report card that will help us make the right decisions next year for the LFA.These documents will be useful to help us manage the expansion and the creation of teams next season. A selection committee will from now on be in charge of evaluating players based on the evaluations they obtain from around the league. Captains will also be selected by vote by members of the new team and will become the spokesman of the team with the league. However when we have our trade period, it will be the duty of the selection committee to evaluate the teams and see if adjustments must be made. We will pass along documents on this shortly.

Take note that the team photos will be taken March 29, to be timed with the start of the elimination round. We will take photos of the four teams at one end of the ice from 4 to 4:30, leaving the rest of the ice to those who want to warm up. Please be on time so we can immortalize the first season of the Ligue Fédérale des As. We will need four players including the captain and an assistant to wear socks with the colours of their teams.
