DEFEAT HAS ONLY THE IMPORTANCE YOU GIVE IT

DEFEAT HAS ONLY THE IMPORTANCE YOU GIVE IT

Last Saturday, while two teams secured their participation in the next round of the playoffs, the semi-finals that will take place on April 28, others saw their season go up in smoke and this especially in the room of the Shamrocks for reasons that I let you guess. With another weekend in front of us where the eight teams will face each other, the defeats of the last weeks for some teams have only the importance that they want to give them because in the end we meet every Saturday basically to play and disconnect from our daily lives. It is clear that many guys are motivated by the competitive aspect of hockey wanting to win the championship to put their hands and their name on the cup but there are other things that matter even more if we look at the "big picture" as the king said. I admit, it sucks to lose and you can be down for a while but imagine you spend 7 to 9 months with a team of boring guys with whom you share nothing as well as not to being successful on the ice. Luckily this season, despite a lot of injuries and absences, the teams have remained competitive and the final ranking clearly demonstrates that.

BECAUSE THERE IS ALWAYS ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT

BECAUSE THERE IS ALWAYS ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT

With the changes under way in La Ligue Fédérale des As after five years of operation and trial and error, the league’s administration wants to continue its reflection before applying the next milestones that will determine the direction to take. To do this, in continuum with an approach begun a few years ago through various polls and unlike last year where the CEO of the league met individually with each regular member of the association, we would like the members of the 2017-2018 edition of the LFA to fill out a short questionnaire to help us make the right decisions.

HOCKEY TATTOOED ALL OVER

HOCKEY TATTOOED ALL OVER

Last Saturday was the first tournament in the history of the LFA. Certainly, in the last five years, we have put together several championship games and events like the first Winter Classic in the city’s history,  but never a tournament. As a reminder of our humble beginning as a 4 team league, again four teams faced each other in the 3-on-3 LFA RUSH, located at Excellent Ice in Kirkland. For those who do not know the place, it is composed of three reduced ice surfaces that allow another approach to the game. We had a real passionate group of guys for this premiere day, which gave way to exciting, relentless games with several spectacular plays and saves.

THE LFA TURNS 5 YEARS OLD UNDER THE RADAR

THE LFA TURNS 5 YEARS OLD UNDER THE RADAR

It's funny (or sad) how time flies. It was while reading an article about a company celebrating its 10th anniversary that I realized that 2017 had come and gone without us celebrating the 5th anniversary of La Ligue Fédéral des As. It shows that I do not have any children or a girlfriend to remind me of these kind of things. The league was founded in December 2012 but we are still in our fifth season of operation having started in September 2013 so we can still blow the candles and call a party !!". Without having a specific birthday date besides that of the creation of the league or its first game let's say it would be cool if everyone showed up for our grand final of May to highlight the path traveled by the LFA and finish our season in style.

WHEN THE TITLE DOES NOT COME TO YOU

WHEN THE TITLE DOES NOT COME TO YOU

Following my existential text of the beginning of the year one might think I want to continue my group introspective to dig a little further under the hypoderm of the LFA and the universe in which we bathe. But strangely, I, who is accustomed to finding my title to give direction to my writings, find myself there, blinded by the whiteness of my screen as if paralyzed by the blowing snow that besieges the city. With all the arrows pointing  north, I do not seem to find my way and the title to get me out of this Nordicity. So for lack of direction I will simply outline some useful points to find your way in your league.

MARKERS OF TIME ....

MARKERS OF TIME ....

We all live overloaded lives since the advent of multiple communication platforms such as email, social networks and cell phones that seem to captivate some of us so dearly. More reachable than ever but more lonesome too. Let's say that the stress level has gone up a notch since they have become part of our lives while decreasing our level of attention. Everything seems to be done on the surface and to see people walking on the big arteries of our cities with their noses in their screen, one would think zombies are now part of the real world. It is sad in fact this level of global awareness, people embark on various movements because it is the fashion of the moment and "like" everything on their path to avoid missing the digital boat. It is in fact their lives that they are missing by living it through a screen through this narcissistic mirror that has no limits. All these incessant disturbances move us away from ourselves because, despite a form of loneliness mentioned above, it is difficult to find a space for you to be with you unless you pull the plug. It seems simple but depending on our reality and our obligations it is not always possible. For others it's downright addictive, a form of digital drug that calms the soul like a cigarette does for others.

HOCKEY AT THE HEART OF OUR LIVES

It is clear that many of you dreamed of becoming professional hockey players, playing for the Habs or other teams of your choice when you were a kid. Not all, but many I am convinced. So to say that hockey is at the heart of our lives even as an adult is no exaggeration even for those with children or demanding jobs. Hockey like soccer, basketball or any team sport shapes our lives. The passion sport arouses in us even among the most cartesian thinker is remarkable and often inspiring.
